ABC dating series was Tuesday’s highest-rated show and led the network to an easy primetime win
Tayshia Adams formally took over as the new star of “The Bachelorette” Season 16 Tuesday and brought a boost in ratings with her.
Last night, “The Bachelorette” scored a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.1 million total viewers. That’s up from the 1.3 rating and 4.8 million viewers Clare Crawley got when she kicked off the season Oct. 13. And while Clare’s start had some stiff competition in an NFL makeup game on CBS, Tayshia’s debut was up against NBC’s “The Voice” and “This Is Us,” and managed to top both shows in the key demo.
Crawley made her premature exit from “The Bachelorette” in a special episode last Thursday, in which she became engaged to suitor Dale. At the end of the installment, Adams entered to take over the ABC dating series for the remainder of this season, but we didn’t really get to see her in action until night’s episode.
ABC was first in ratings with a 1.2 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 4.1 million, according to preliminary numbers. From 8-10 p.m., “The Bachelorette” had the above-mentioned 1.6 rating and 5.1 million viewers, plus a 9 share. At 10, “Country Strong 2020: Countdown to the CMA Awards” settled for a 0.4/3 and 2.2 million viewers.
NBC was second in ratings with a 0.9/6 and first in viewers with 6 million. “The Voice” at 8 scored a 1.1/5 and 7.4 million viewers. At 9, “This Is Us” earned a 1.3/7 and 6.7 million viewers. “Transplant” at 10 received a 0.5/3 and 3.9 million viewers.
CBS was third in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 4 million. Following back-to-back drama repeats, “The FBI Declassified” at 10 managed a 0.3/2 and 2.8 million viewers.
Fox, Univision and Telemundo tied for fourth in ratings, each with a 0.3/2. Fox was fourth in viewers with 1.163 million, Univision was fifth with 1.156 million and Telemundo was sixth with 944,000.
For Fox, “Cosmos: Possible Worlds” at 8 had a 0.3/2 and 1.3 million viewers. At 9, “Next” closed the night with a 0.2/1 and 1 million viewers.
The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.1/1 and in total viewers with 561,000. “Swamp Thing” at 8 got a 0.1/1 and 752,000 viewers. At 9, “Tell Me a Story” settled for a 0.1/0 and 369,000 viewers.
